a moment to myself

June 30th, 2008 by RM · No Comments ·

I’ve kept a fairly frantic pace the last few days, buzzing from convention to hotel to meetings with various people in and around the comics scene. Now that the show’s finally over and the wind-down period a very real possibility, I decided to take a swim in the hotel pool, buy a couple of drinks and spend the next few hours reading and watching some television on my ipod while sitting in the sun and essentially allowing myself a little de-stress time.

Here’s what I’m currently working through in my media backlog:

“Junky” by William S. Burroughs - It’s pretty much the last one of his books I have yet to read, which is strange, because it’s typically the first book by Burroughs that anyone reads.

“Stephen Colbert’s Tek Jansen” Issue #1 - I’ve been meaning to sit down and read through this one for quite a while, so now is as good a time as any.

“The Perhapanauts” #1-4 - One of my favorite under-the-radar series. I picked up the last 4-issue miniseries published by Dark Horse Comics at a Chicago comic shop for a low price, so now it’s in the queue.

“Breaking Bad” - I downloaded a few episodes of this televison series that ran on AMC a while back, and now I’m hooked. It’s a great series about the slippery slope that can develop when you compromise certain morals in pursuit of short-term gain. It’s also about a high school chemistry teacher who discovers he has cancer and decides to start cooking crystal meth with a former student to pay his medical bills. Brilliant.
