  • The Geek Beat: Interview with a Newbie – Cinematical – Elisabeth Rappe interviews, of all people, her mom! I met Elisabeth and her mother at San Diego Comic-Con this year, and told her how my own mother was a regular attendee at MegaCon in Florida each year… and it made me that much more aware and appreciative of the fact that I have a mother who "gets" these types of things. Kudos to Elisabeth for doing this interview. I think I might steal the idea and have a chat w/ my own mom!
  • Attentiondeficitdisorderly Too Flat: Bully for you, chilly for me – Sean T. Collins posts the newest additions to his David Bowie sketchbook! Always an excellent collection of alt-comics creators interpretations of Bowie, this chapter has some real gems. (Example: Jim Woodring!)
  • Paul Cornell: Doctor Who's Paul Cornell Tells io9 Why Darkness Is Overrated – "io9: In your "Scream Of The Shalka" webcast, you showed a bitter older version of the Doctor, who's full of self-loathing and tired of saving the universe. I asked Steven Moffat about it, and he said we'd never see that version of the Doctor on TV. Do you think he's right?
CORNELL: Yes, I think he's hugely right. That's pretty obvious, isn't it? None of the onscreen Doctors have been sad for more than ten minutes before something fun comes along. And I'm really tired with the idea that 'dark' is adult. If anything, as an adult I've come to cherish really stupid comedy as possibly the highest achivement of mankind.
Because it's the thing we do that most points away from death. I'm increasingly unafraid to say that 'A Matter of Life and Death' has been replaced as my favourite movie of all time by 'One of our Dinosaurs is Missing'. Dum dum dum dum de de dum de dum dum! Just humming the theme tune."
  • Cabin Fever 2 Even Gorier – Some friends of mine spent a day as extras on the set of Cabin Fever 2, and from what they tell me, this report isn't even the half of it. At one point, they joined about 50 other couples lying on the floor of a school auditorium while the crew threw buckets of fake blood on them for about an hour. Literally, they just dumped fake blood on them until the floor was a few inches deep in fake blood. They tell me it was one of the most fun experiences they've ever had… I question their definition of "fun."
  • Conceptual Trends and Current Topics: Heinlein's Fan Mail Solution – Brilliant, way-ahead-of-its-time response to a problem that's been fairly automated in the current age. Also, it's from Heinlein, which means it's great.
  • Anger Is an Energy, but Sometimes I Have Hope « 5 political songs for hope in a time when everyone's angry – … "4. “Blowin’ in the Wind.” Bob Dylan (but performed by Peter, Paul, and Mary). Sure, it might rip off the African-American spiritual “No More Auction Block for Me,” but it’s one of those songs that presents Bob Dylan at his best, writing in poetic, yet understandable language. It’s at once depressing–because the answer seems to be “forever,” but also suggestive that it’s obvious to fix the problems at hand."

LOL, I was afraid the entire Internet was laughing at me for interviewing my mom. I’m glad you liked it — and yeah, I want you to chat with your mom, I’d love to read it.

My mom got her very first issue of The Stand this week. I’m so proud. ;)
