  • The Straight Dope: How would the U.S. military fight a zombie army? – … because knowing is half the battle. (via blog@)
  • Higgs Boson plush toy – Boing Boing – This seems to be well-timed with today's post re: The LHC, so it gets a link! However, I still don't know wtf these Boson things are…
  • CR Sunday Interview: Scott McCloud – "There were a lot of creative possibilities for experimentation early on. There still are. The difference is that in 2008 no one is proposing ways for the experimental weirdos to make money. I was back then, and it failed. Right now almost all of the successful business models are built on daily or thrice-weekly gag strips. Short attention spans. Those include some extremely talented people and some great comics. The point is to have a lot of chatter around the comic. The comic as social space. It's this little centerpiece on this potpourri of appetizers and party favors that make the money: advertising, merchandising, sponsorships, t-shirt, mugs, that kind of thing. … The alternative models like subscriptions and micros were a non-starter. Guys like me failed to come up with something for long-form comics. But guys like the Penny Arcade guys or Scott Kurtz have done really well by the short form comics. "
  • The Geek Media » MPAA causes ‘Zack and Miri’ Poster to become BETTER – You really can't get better hype for your film than something like this happening. Seriously. Congrats to Kevin Smith.
  • Do All Dogs Go To Heaven? Catholic vs. Presbyterian POV – A debate waged via signage… and I'm pretty sure Our Lady of Martyrs Catholic Church wins this round. Good try, though, Beulah Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Too bad it's all Photoshop fakery, as this sort of thing might actually get me interested in checking out a church.
  • Poster: LEGO Dr. Manhattan Reminds Us To Be Excited About Watchmen – Very nice. Have I mentioned how much I'm looking forward to this film? Yeah? Well I'm going to tell you again. This project looks AMAZING!
  • YouTube – Awesome Mario Brothers Theme Song Acapella – It's not only the Super Mario Bros. theme, but also a medley of various 8-bit Nintendo themes. I could do without some of the acting, as I think it took away from the actual a capella performance – but this looks like a really fun show all the same.
  • Hurricane Ike: Flooding, Forced Evacuation and…. FURRIES? | WFAA.com – I'm… I'm not really sure what to say about this video.
  • Google Launches Mobile App For BlackBerry | RIMarkable – Looks nice, but I'll reserve judgment until I download it tonight and use it a bit. But the "Fast Search" feature looks useful.
  • J.M. DeMatteis’ Amazon Blog: THE STORY BEHIND THE HUNT – One of my Spider-Man stories, "Kraven's Last Hunt," actually began as a Wonder Man miniseries? Say it ain't so!
  • Realistic Kirby justifies Nintendo’s approach – Infendo – AaaaAAaaaaGGgggHHhhh!! The Horror!!! DO NOT LOOK IF YOU EVER PLAN TO PLAY A KIRBY GAME AGAIN! (via Agent_M)
  • Confirmed: Mickey Rourke Still Crazy — Vulture – Wow. Rourke looks pretty rough in this photo, but it's this line that I love: "Rourke apparently has six Chihuahuas, one of them nicknamed Jaws (a.k.a. Little Mickey), who he rescued from certain death at an animal shelter. "It had been badly abused and was totally uncontrollable, always foaming at the mouth and growling at anyone that tried to come near him. So, of course, Rourke tried to give him a kiss and Jaws bit his mouth. 'There was blood everywhere. It looked like I'd been hit by a car. I had to go get stitches. But I kept him.'"
