moving on up… or is it down? where are we moving again?

September 27th, 2008 by RM · 6 Comments ·

Updates will be sparse this weekend as Jessica and I move into the new apartment in Astoria, NY. It’s a decent place, and along with having a friend in the next building, I’m discovering a mess of other people I know who live in and around the area, too. Oh, and Christopher Walken was born and raised there, I’m told. So we’ve got that going for us.

Wish us luck, because we could really use it. I’ve tried to build up some good moving karma the last few years, helping a number of friends get their stuff from one place to another and using my mutant space-management and packing abilities to ease the transition — so here’s hoping it pays off.

Oh, and if you don’t hear from us in a few days, by all means come and look for us! We’re probably buried under a mountain of boxes and plastic bins.

If you start telling people about how you had to smuggle a watch… ;)

I hate to break it to you, but Walken did not grow up in Astoria. How might I know this for certain? Ronald Christopher Walken grew up on 210th st. in Bayside Queens diagonally across the street from from the house my father grew up in. Hence, why my grandmother always referred to him as "Little Ronnie Walken from across the street." I can confirm that as recently as 2005 his mother still lives in the same house.

Yea… Wikipedia never lies, but then again is it lying if you THINK you’re telling the truth!? Wikipedia is built on that style of truthiness. Plus, I’ve seen the limo he sends for his mother every major holiday to come pick her up. Def grew up in Bayside.

at least 2 other websites including About.com Queens, NY (http://queens.about.com/od/neighborhoods/p/astoria.htm ) also list Christopher Walken as having grown up in Astoria as did Tony Bennet.

*sigh* Apparently Mr. Walken employs a very good PR manager that is attempting to give him more “Street Cred”, as it were, by claiming Astoria heritage. However, my first hand dealings with Walken’s family members (particularly his mother who is a crazy old bitch and was consistently mean to my saintly grandmother!) allows me to KNOW I am right rather than BELIEVE the story concocted. It’s like an athletes “program” height/weight, it can be confirmed from many sources but it’s still false!! I’ll believe what my eyes me, you guys can trust IMDB and wikipedia… they’re NEVER wrong.

P.S. I will not back off of this!1!!
