To be honest, I shouldn’t need to write any more of an introduction to this clip. The headline should be enough. It’s Gary freakin’ Busey, after all.
However, I should probably note that Busey spends very little time talking about Hunter S. Thompson in this interview — from what I can discern, at least. Busey-talk is as strange a beast as Busey himself, and both have a certain… exotic quality… that makes it difficult to find a comparative word/action in our own lives. (Just ask Adam de la Pena.)
Take, for instance, his response to the interviewer’s question about how Thompson’s work in writing compares to Busey’s work in acting.
“It’s a mind that’s open to everything, yet attached to nothing,” answered Busey. “It’s called freedom. That’s what it is. Plain and simple.”
