Hunter Thompson Sketchbook, Pt. 1

July 1st, 2009 by Rick · No Comments ·

It pretty much goes without saying that if you cover the comics industry long enough, you’ll end up with a sketchbook. I’ve seen some really beautiful ones (and wrote about some of my favorites back in October), but the one sketchbook I’ve always admired the most is that of my former co-editor at Wizard, Sean T. Collins. His David Bowie sketchbook is a legend these days, and I recently felt inspired to start one of my own based on one of my favorite cultural touchstones, deceased gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson.

The sketches come from various comic book and webcomic artists I’ve met over the last few years, including this one from writer/artist Mark Wheatley (Frankenstein Mobster, EZ Street).

Below are a few more sketches by webcomic creators Meredith Gran, Jeff Rowland, Jon Rosenberg, Paul Southworth and Spike. I’ll post a few more tomorrow, with everything added to the full gallery on Flickr as I go along.
