Happy Birthday, Jim Henson

September 24th, 2011 by Rick · 1 Comment ·

Jim Henson was born on this date in 1936, so it seemed appropriate to post my most significant memory of his creations.

To be honest, it’s not so much this scene from “The Muppet Movie” that I remember, but rather my mother singing me to sleep with “The Rainbow Connection” — but this is where my awareness of the song began.

Over the years, “The Rainbow Connection” has become one of those songs that instantly sends my mind back to the days when I ran around in footy pajamas and the world seemed so much bigger than it does now.

That’s why, when Jessica and I were deciding which songs to play at our wedding, I chose Kermit’s version of “The Rainbow Connection” for the traditional mother/son dance. I know my mother understood why I chose that song, and that’s just one of the many ways Jim Henson touched our lives and so many others.

Happy birthday, Jim Henson.

Jim Henson really touched so many with his creativity & vision. You were a real fan of Sesame Street & Fraggle Rock. We did spend a lot of time with Mr. Henson’s creations when you were growing up.
