Disney released the first trailer for The Avengers today, and yeah, it’s actually pretty great. Check it out:

While I love most of Robert Downey Jr’s dialogue in the trailer (and let’s face it: he is this trailer), that whole line about “avenging” the Earth was a little ridiculous. But that’s about the only negative thing I can say about it.

Tom Hiddleston looks great as Loki yet again. To be honest, he’s one of my favorite characters (alongside RDJ’s Tony Stark) in the entire Marvel cinematic universe so far.

The new trailer also doesn’t give any clue as to whether those rampant rumors about the Skrulls have any truth to them. I’ll be curious to see what all the sites who “confirmed” that the Skrulls were in the film will have to say if it turns out it was all just Loki doing what he does best.

In any event, it looks like May 2012 is going to be all kinds of awesome.
