Well, I’ve been hinting at it for a few days now and some readers are already “in the know,” but today I can finally make it official: On September 2, I’ll be joining the MTV team as one of the editors of Splash Page, the company’s new website that covers the worlds of comics, movies and everywhere the two subjects find common ground.

I’ll be joining the current editor, Casey Seijas, in helping to make this new spin-off from their already successful MTV Movies site an even more attractive online destination for comics and movie fans. It’s a lofty goal, though, as Casey and the Splash Page crew have been doing a great job on the site since it launched in late July. If you haven’t done so already, I hope you’ll bookmark Splash Page and subscribe to the Splash Page RSS Feed. As always, I’ll do my best to reward your support with the most interesting content I can provide.

On that note, I want to let all of the readers of this site, my twitter feed and all of my other digital soapboxes know that one of the primary reasons this opportunity came around for me is that very same support so many friends and professional colleagues were quick to provide when I first mentioned I was leaving ComicMix. I didn’t have to send out a single resume or spend any time looking for a promising needle in the haystack of employment websites. All of the companies who contacted me did so because someone had told them I was available and spoke highly of my accomplishments. That’s a damn good feeling, and I know I have many of you to thank for it.

As for what’s next, I plan to continue providing webcomic news roundups and webcomic creator interviews here on MindPollution after I’ve kicked things off with Splash Page. I’m going to target a weekly schedule on the interviews again, but I don’t want to promise anything at this point. There are a lot of unknowns in this big ol’ equation that I’m working out, but I enjoy my webcomics work too much to let it go. To that end, I’ll also be posting the occasional interview here on MindPollution that falls outside the realm of my Splash Page work, and contributing on a freelance basis to a few print and online outlets now and then. I’ll be sure to keep this site updated as things happen.

Well, now that I’ve finally been able to announce the new gig and present my “mission statement” of sorts, I hope you’ll make splashpage.mtv.com (and, if you aren’t doing so already, www.mindpollution.org) a regular part of your online routine. I hope to see some familiar names in the Splash Page comments, so don’t be shy about making your presence known. Thanks again for all of your support, and I’ll see you around the ‘Webs!

I hope to be able to let everyone know about the new job I’ve accepted early next week, so keep an eye on the site Monday morning. On the bright side, the new position will keep me active in the comics industry, while also allowing me some time to freelance here and there. It’s also a significant step up in a variety of ways, so I’m eagerly anticipating the chance to tell you about it.

However, the new job makes it a necessity for Jessica and I to move into the New York City metro area and back-burner our plans to head to Chicago (which had already semi-stalled when the ComicMix deal fell through). But the positives far outweigh the negatives… and I’m looking forward to telling you all about it.

In preparation for our move, though, my comics purge continues. I’ve been lucky to have a few great people around the industry mention the auction (I’m looking at you, Sean T. Collins and Tom Spurgeon), and that’s encouraged me to keep packaging everything up and posting it on eBay. I really don’t want to carry these boxes to the next apartment, folks. I’m posting another 8-10 auctions each day, so come back regularly for new stuff you can buy on the cheap.
