How about we just pretend like I’ve done all that and made all sorts of excuses for not updating the site, and get right back to normal, eh?

Here’s a quick roundup of some of the pieces I’ve authored for MTV.com blogs recently:

Changing The End Of ‘Watchmen’: The Great Debate [MTV Splash Page] - At the risk of losing any ounce of comics cred I might have earned over the last few years, I decided to take the fanboy-unfriendly side of a debate that had been raging in the MTV office for a while now. Yes, it’s true — we actually do argue about this type of stuff on occasion. When the latest “Watchmen” trailer hit the ‘Net, we decided that it was time to take the debate public. Even though I love the book, I’ve been keeping an eye out for pitchfork-wielding “Watchmen” loyalists ever since.

How Would Comic Book Characters Like Iron Man, Hulk And X-Men Vote? Their Writers Respond! [MTV Splash Page] - As some of you might remember, I polled a few online comic creators I’m friendly with during the US Presidential Election to find out who their webcomic characters would vote for. The post really blew up, and while I’m not sure whether the idea for the poll began as a webcomic thing or a print comics thing, I ended up doing the same for creators of various print comics, too. It was a fairly short-notice feature, so I can’t thank the creators enough who took the time to respond. To be honest, I was surprised (quite pleasantly, in fact) to hear from Warren Ellis, as I didn’t expect to receive a response to my message, and both Peter David and Matt Fraction provided some great responses that really pulled everything together. Heck, I’m proud of the fact that this was the only place you could find the Spider Jerusalem endorsement — which made it all worthwhile.

Chris Morgan Writing Screenplay For ‘Wanted 2,’ Hints At Sequel Going ‘Global’ [MTV Splash Page] - You’ll recall that I spoke to screenwriter Chris Morgan a while back about his work on the upcoming big-screen adaptation of the “Gears of War” videogame. My conversation with Chris covered a lot of topics, and one of the other subjects we discussed was whether he was writing a screenplay for “Wanted 2,” the sequel to his adaptation of Mark Millar and JG Jones’ ultraviolent graphic novel, Wanted. Chris is a great guy. I can’t say that enough, either.

Kevin Smith’s ‘Batman: Cacophony’ Comic Book Debuts [MTV Splash Page] - As I wrote in this little post, I’m really fond of the villain named “Onomatopoeia” that writer/filmmaker Kevin Smith introduced in his run on Green Arrow, so I’ll admit being very excited about this new miniseries.

‘Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe’: Fatalities, Translations And Comics’ Classic Match-Ups [MTV Splash Page] - One of my most significant distractions over the last few weeks has been time spent gaming on my newly repaired Playstation 3. All of my “free” time has pretty much been tied up with either marathon sessions of “Resistance 2” or, thanks to MTV’s Multiplayer Blog, the pre-release review copy I was given of “Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe.” The Multiplayer crew has been pretty swamped lately, so I was asked if I could spend some time playing “MK vs DC” and write up a comics-fan assessment of the game. The things I do for a paycheck, eh? (By the way, here’s a video of all of the “Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe” fatalities — just in case you’re curious.)

Lucky for us, the chances of the next pandemic hurling in from space are slim to none. But the book brought the concept of bio-safety levels to far more advanced heights. As for the next great bug, not only have we created antibiotic-resistant superbugs here on Earth, we’ve also discovered that some strains become more virulent when sent into space. The headline should be enough. It’s Gary freakin’ Busey, after all.

However, I should probably note that Busey spends very little time talking about Hunter S. Thompson in this interview — from what I can discern, at least. Busey-talk is as strange a beast as Busey himself, and both have a certain… exotic quality… that makes it difficult to find a comparative word/action in our own lives. (Just ask Adam de la Pena.)

Take, for instance, his response to the interviewer’s question about how Thompson’s work in writing compares to Busey’s work in acting.

“It’s a mind that’s open to everything, yet attached to nothing,” answered Busey. “It’s called freedom. That’s what it is. Plain and simple.”

And that really was as “plain and simple” as Busey got in this interview. Go ahead and see for yourself:

Earlier this week, I sent around an email asking creators to tell me about the presidential candidates their webcomic characters would vote for. Well, the post blew up on me and ended up becoming one of the most popular items of the last few months.

So, now that I’ve weathered the storm, I thought it was time to take another look at it.

First off, I can’t thank everyone enough who took the time to respond, and even though it was a busy couple of days for me, I tried to update the post with additional responses as they came in. To conclude that little experiment, I thought it would be nice to tally up everyone’s votes and see how the election ended up in the webcomics world. After all, we know how all of the states voted in the US — but what about the webcomic population?

Here’s the final tally, but keep in mind I had to use a bit of estimation when it came to some of the more ambiguously worded responses:

[DEM] BARACK OBAMA/JOE BIDEN: 37

[REP] JOHN MCCAIN/SARAH PALIN: 26

[UNITED FASCIST UNION] JACKSON K. GRIMES: 3

[SOCIALIST] BRIAN MOORE/STEWART ALEXANDER: 1

[DEAD] ADOLF HITLER: 1

[DEAD] JACK KEROUAC: 1

So there you have it! Obama wins in the webcomic world, too.

Thanks for participating in this grand experiment, folks!
